The project below shows the manufacture and refurbishment of two spur gears out of the traction engine built by William Allchin of Northampton known as the Evedon Lad, this engine is now owned by Richard Poole
Only 19 of these engines remain, out of 232 made between 1880 - 1932.
The Images that follow show the work carried out involving the removal of the original cast teeth, manufacture of new EN8 Rings, Gearcutting and fitting to the original hub. This work is typical of similar projects undertaken for Neil Williams (Whitchurch) & Terry Bostock (SandBach).
Providing accurate gear centre distances can be measured on the engine, various speed change permutations are possible.
